The Secret to the Game of Influence Marketing
The Secret to the Game of Influence Marketing
By Wagma Mohammadi
It's not about being in the game, it's about being the MVP of the game. Just like sports, social marketing involves more than just being any player: it's about understanding the game, the competition, and how to be a winner. Over the past few years, I have seen more and more companies entering the social media world but I have not seen huge success by all of them. Some have Twitter pages, or Facebook pages but not all of them actually use them to their full potential. But maybe they just don't know how.
Social media or the Internet is definitely the Mecca of my generation, the Now generation, so it's only natural that we are the ones who really know how to navigate through it. Most CEOs and VPs are not in their twenties, they are in their late thirties and forties, when social media sites like Facebook and Twitter did not exist. This might explain why some companies who use social media are not impressed with its return on investment...simply because they don't understand the game. It's simple: get involved and BE involved. You cannot have a Twitter account for your corporation and not "tweet". You must be involved in the process, and in every step of it. It's all about the world SOCIAL. It's all about the audience; the game would not exist if not for fans.
Once you begin to blog, post and "tweet" more people will flock because you are creating a social influence, and you will know your customers on a whole new level. And that is key. In order to influence customer behavior, you must know who they are. But before you can do any of that, it is essential that you UNDERSTAND the game.
